Wednesday night was the first of several meetings that will be held to discuss the future of the Murphy Lot in Blairsville.
One of the topics that was brought up was allowable uses for the space, as per requirements for some of the funding used to raze the former Murphy building, the lot has to remain a “green space” for the next seven years. Josh Krug with the office of Planning and Development said that while the Community Development Block Grant regulations do not have a strict definition of “Green Space”, he did talk about what could be put in there to keep it within regulations.
Dan Kelly with the Blairsville Community Development Authority said that the process of getting ideas from the public will be extremely helpful for the area in the future.
The BCDA, Blairsville Borough government and the Office of Planning and Development are encouraging people to take a survey on the plan. That survey is available at https://icopd.org/murphy-lot-visioning-project.html
Hard copies of the survey will also be available at the BCDA Office, the Blairsville municipal building, the Office of Planning and Development, State Representative Jim Struzzi’s office in Blairsville and State Senator Joe Pittman’s office in Indiana. Surveys are due by October 16th, and the next meeting will be held on November 4th on Zoom chat.
