UPDATE: State police have identified the victim in the crash as 20-year-old Matthew A. Badzik of Ernest. Police said he had “major injuries” and was intially taken to IRMC’s helipad to be flown to Forbes Hospital in Pittsburgh for further treatment. State police say that the investigation is continuing.
WHAT WE PREVIOUSLY REPORTED
One person suffered injuries in a crash reported Tuesday evening in White Township.
Indiana County 911 reported the crash was on Martin Road, and the initial call for Indiana Fire Association members, Citizens Ambulance, and State Police went out at 5:02 PM. Indiana Fire Association assistant chief Ron Moreau said that the driver, identified only as a 20-year-old man, was driving a Pontiac sedan when it went off the road and hit multiple trees. The driver was trapped in the vehicle. First responders had to use hydraulic tools to remove the driver’s side doors and get him out of the vehicle. The man was eventually taken to Indiana Regional Medical Center and later airlifted to a hospital in Pittsburgh.
State police investigations are continuing. Other information on the crash was not released.
This was one of several incidents that kept first responders busy yesterday. A structure fire was reported yesterday on Dutch Run Road in Washington Township at 2:00 PM. Creekside and Elderton Fire Departments along with the RIT team and Citizen’s Ambulance were called out for that incident. No information is available on that fire.
Two vehicle accidents were reported within a half-hour of each other. One was in Pine Township on Route 553 at 10:03 PM, with Pine Township, Citizen’s Ambulance and State police called to the scene. The other was at 10:33 pm on Route 286 in Green Township. Commodore Fire Department, along with Citizen’s and State Police were called out.
