Jury selection is set to get underway today for the trial of Charles Cook, who is accused of killing an Indiana woman in 1991.
That jury selection is going on today at the KCAC, with the trial set to start next Monday, October 5th. Cook, who is a drifter from Pennsylvania, is charged with Criminal Homicide and Robbery in connection with the shooting death of Myrtle McGill on December 7th of 1991. He allegedly shot her through a kitchen window and stole her car. He was identified as a suspect in 2007 thanks to DNA evidence found on a cigarette butt inside of McGill’s car, and was found in 2016 in Mankato, Minnesota where he was living as a transient and posing as a homeless Vietnam veteran.
The case had a stop at the State Supreme Court, where it was ruled that statements he made to another patient at a mental health facility in Minnesota after his arrest are admissible. Cook’s attorney on Friday filed a subpoena and prosecutors filed their requests for jury instructions.
