Not surprisingly, Pennsylvania’s two U.S. Senators have differing opinions on President Trump’s nomination yesterday of Judge Amy Coney Barrett for the Supreme Court.
Republican Senator Pat Toomey praised the selection, saying Barrett has strong legal credentials and impeccable character, with “an unfailing commitment to the proper role of a judge.” He says he looks forward to reviewing her record as he considers her nomination.
Democrat Senator Bob Casey has already made up his mind. He says Barrett has “an extreme judicial philosophy” and he cannot support her because of her conservative views.
Hopeful of a presidential election victory for Democrat nominee Joe Biden, Casey says the selection of a justice to replace the late Ruth Bader Ginsburg should wait until after the election in November. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell vows that he will hold the vote before November 3rd.
