While Mitch Kellar pitched five shutout innings, allowing eight walks, the Pirates lost to Cleveland on Friday 4-3.
Carlos Santana opened the scoring for Cleveland in the first inning. While grounding into a double-play, he picked up the RBI as Fransisco Lindor scored. Gregory Polanco of the Pirates hit a two-run homer in the 4th to give the Pirates a 2-1 lead. That lead was extended to 3-1 in the 8th as Ke’Bryan Hayes picked up an RBI single that scored Adam Frazier. But Cleveland would walk off the winners in the Bottom of the 9th as Jordan Luplow hit an RBI double to score Tyler Naquin. Luplow would make it home on an RBI single by Delino DeShields, and DeShields would cross the plate on the game-winning hit by Cesar Hernandez.
Pirates starter Mitch Keller struck out three in his five innings of shut out ball, and was only responsible for one run. He got a no-decision with Chris Stratton blowing the save and taking the loss in relief.
The Pirates play Cleveland tonight at 6:45 on WCCS.
