A Clymer daycare operator says the State Department of Health is threatening her business and her over a false positive test for coronavirus.
Joanne Shedlock, the owner of Shedlock’s Daycare, says it all began last Thursday when a parent told her that their 11-month-old child had tested positive for Covid-19. Shedlock shut down the business and called everyone involved and on Friday, she was contacted by the Department of Health. She cooperated with them and stayed shut down while her six daycare staff and family were tested, but those tests all came back negative. They all had colds, but not coronavirus, and the parent of the 11-month-old called back and said her family all tested negative, and a second test of the original child came back negative. The infant was released by the doctor to return to daycare.
Shedlock says the Department of Health called another parent and marked them as positive, despite their child’s results not being back yet, and those results did eventually come back negative.
Shedlock called the Health Department on Monday and tried to get them to change the results to negative, but she says they refused, and a woman there argued and got angry with her. The next day, Shedlock says, she got a call from State Childcare threatening to take her license, and now they are threatening to get a court order to force her to be confined.
Shedlock said that she felt like the state had let her down in this situation.
Shedlock has contacted State Representative Jim Struzzi’s office and he said that they are investigating. He added that he was concerned about the accuracy of the numbers from the Department of Health.
Shedlock says she has sent the Department of Health the documentation proving that there was no positive Covid-19 test involving her daycare.
