At Wednesday night’s White Township Supervisors Meeting, one supervisor made a request for a traffic light to be installed at the site of a recent accident.
The crash was reported at the intersection of Acorn Street, College Lodge Road and Philadelphia Street. According to Supervisor Eugene Gemmell, a car had crashed into a gas meter and knocked it over, spreading a lot of gas into the air on September 12th. There were no injuries reported, but the apartments and surrounding homes had to be evacuated. Gemmell said in the meantime, the gas company made line repairs, moved the meter back 15 feet from the curb and surrounded it with heavy blocks.
Township Manager Milt Lady said that the township has done some work to try to keep cars from speeding in the area or blowing by stop signs.
Gemmell made an additional request to have Lady write a letter to PennDOT to see if they can get a traffic signal at the intersection. That motion was approved unanimously.
In business related to Acorn Street, the Supervisors approved a resolution saying that the township supervisors intends to put in an grant application for the 2020-2021 Multimodal Transportation Fund program through the Department of Community and Economic Development. The money would be used for the $2.4 million Acorn Street extension project to connect with Laurel and High Streets.
