With the Charles Cook homicide trial nearing Indiana County President Judge William Martin will hold a pre-trial conference with the attorneys for both sides this afternoon.
Cook, who is now 67 years old, is the drifter accused of murdering 76-year-old Myrtle McGill in 1991 at her home along South 6th Street in Indiana. He was identified as a suspect in 2007 and finally located in Minnesota in 2016, and his case has been slowly making its way through the court system since. In April, State Superior Court reversed Judge Martin’s dismissal of certain evidence against Cook, namely the statements he made to a fellow patient while in mental health treatment after his arrest.
Judge Martin re-issued a series of rulings last week requiring the presence of several material witnesses, including the counselor who overheard Cook’s conversation with the fellow patient and a doctor who treated Cook.
The trial is currently listed with two possible star dates…this coming Monday, or Monday, October 5th.
