IUP’s Oak Grove was the site of the groundbreaking for a new building dedicated to science and math at IUP.
Ground was broken Wednesday for the John J. and Char Kopchick Hall at IUP. The new building will be the home for the Kopchick College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. At yesterday’s ceremonies, Dr. John Kopchick, who earned his bachelors at IUP in 1972 and his doctorate in 1975 in Biology, said that he was honored with having the building named after him and his wife, but he felt what was important was the opportunities it would provide to future students.
The building is meant to be flexible, meaning that as years go by, the building can be upgraded to meet certain needs. IUP President Dr. Michael Driscoll said that the new building will be a great draw for students.
Faculty is expected to move in during the summer of 2023, and classes are expected to start there the following fall.
