Indiana Borough Police are taking part in National Rail Safety Week this week, and that included an event yesterday that focused on keeping railroad tracks clear.
According to a news release, the effort was coordinated by Amtrak and Operation Lifesaver operations in the U.S. and Canada. Known as Operation Clear Track, the effort is meant to reduce the number of railway crossing and trespassing incidents in the U.S. and Canada that seriously injure or kill over 2100 people each year. This year’s event has gone virtual due to Coronavirus concerns, as police and sheriff’s departments across North America will promote rail safety through social media, by sharing Operation Lifesaver’s public service announcements and other videos and by posting other rail safety information on their websites.
