PIRATES LOSE AGAIN TO BREWERS, LOOK FORWARD TO HAYES ARRIVING

The Bucs closed their road trip with another loss to the Brewers last night.

Pittsburgh lost, 6-5, with Nik Turley giving up a run in the eighth inning to snap a 5-5 tie.

The Pirates will return to PNC Park tonight to kick off a nine-game homestand when they host the Cubs, with Chad Kuhl getting the start for the Bucs. The right hander is 1-and-1 with a 2.52 ERA. It’s a 6:40 airtime on WCCS.

“Redbeard” was back in the lineup for the Pirates. Colin Moran started at first base after spending the last week on seven-day concussion IL. And there may be a new look to the infield tonight as the club’s top prospect, Ke’Bryan Hayes, is expected to be called up ahead of the game from the alternate training site in Altoona. Hayes’ father, former Bucco third baseman Charlie Hayes, tweeted Monday his son had made it “to The Show.”

GM Ben Cherington says Hayes must earn his playing time.

The Buccos were quiet on deadline day this year, despite reportedly being active in numerous trade talks.

The Diamondbacks and Padres were the biggest dealers at the MLB trade deadline. Arizona shipped Starling Marte to Miami, Archie Bradley to Cincinnati and Robbie Ray to Toronto, among other deals. Marte’s trade was a surprise. The former Pirate is hitting .311 this year with two homers and eight doubles, plus five steals and he’s playing well in center field, with a +5 rating.

The Padres acquired Indians’ ace Mike Clevinger to close out their hefty haul, which included five trades in the past week.
