It was a rough night for the Pirates as the Milwaukee Brewers dismantled Derek Holland and the Pirates pitching staff, as the Brew Crew blasted four home runs in game one of the four-game weekend series, and won by a score of 9-1.
Bucs’ broadcaster Greg Brown has the full story.
The only highlight for the Pirates on the night was a solo home run by infielder J.T. Riddle, his first in the black and gold, in the eighth inning.
First basemen Josh Bell also had two hits on the evening, bringing his batting average over .200.
Yesterday the Pirates traded outfielder Jarrod Dyson to the Chicago White Sox in exchange for international signing bonus pool money. Manager Derek Shelton told ESPN that Dyson was “an unbelievable teammate” as he assisted in transitioning Cole Tucker to the outfield.
Tonight, the Pirates and Brewers face off in game two of the four-game road stand for Pittsburgh. J.T. Brubaker toes the rubber for the Pirates, looking for his first win of the season. Opposing him will be Brett Anderson. Coverage on WCCS begins at 6:45 with first pitch to follow at 7:10.
