Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger answered questions in a media conference for the first time since training camp opened, and spoke on a number of topics.
The number one question, of course, was how his surgically-rebuilt right elbow is feeling. He reported no pain – sharp or dull – for the first time since he can remember, going all the way back to his rookie year, and said he was “pleasantly surprised” at his arm strength.
The veteran quarterback said he is very impressed with the team’s top draft pick, wide receiver Chase Claypool.
Entering his 17th season, the 38-year-old Roethlisberger was asked if he would emulate fellow quarterbacks Tom Brady and Drew Brees and play into his forties.
The Steeler injury report grew yesterday, with rookie running back Anthony McFarland leaving practice for concussion protocol, tackle Alejandro Villanueva getting checked out for a left knee injury but returning to practice, safety Terrell Edmunds limited due to an apparent left knee injury, fullback Derek Watt limited for an undisclosed reason, and tight end Eric Ebron out with an illness.
The Steelers and Pitt Panthers announced yesterday that all games at Heinz Field will be played without fans in attendance. The Steelers have two games there next month while Pitt plays all three of its September games at home.
