The Pirates gave up three runs in the top of the 10th and lost to the Cleveland Indians, 6-3, Tuesday night at PNC Park.
Pittsburgh reliever Sam Howard gave up a three-run homer to Carlos Santana in the final frame. The home run had to be reviewed, as it traveled a Statcast-estimated 442 feet directly over the left-field foul pole.
The Bucs took the first lead when Colin Moran drove in Kevin Newman with a single in the first inning. Newman led the Pirates with three hits.
Cleveland answered in the third with a two-run single by Santana, and the Indians made it 3-1 later in the inning on a sacrifice fly.
A two-run double by Josh Bell in the fifth inning knotted the score at 3-3. The score remained tied through nine innings, as five Pirates relievers held Cleveland scoreless for six innings.
The loss dropped the Pirates to 4-15.
Steven Brault will take the mound for the Pirates on Wednesday night against the Indians. Airtime on WCCS AM 1160 and 101.1 FM will be 6:40 pm.
