After practicing in shorts so far, Steelers players take the next step forward in training camp with their first workout in pads today.
Two Steelers’ second-year players have been turning heads in camp, mostly due to their newly-sculpted bodies. Running back Bennie Snell and wide receiver Diontae Johnson both showed up in Pittsburgh leaner and more muscular. In the past, Leveon Bell, James Conner, and James Washington underwent similar bodywork between their first and second seasons.
Coach Mike Tomlin says second-year players typically make a lot progress and it’s not coincidental.
