The Pens lost 2-0 to Montreal on Friday afternoon, and were eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
After two periods of tight play, Artturi Lehknonen broke the game open for Montreal, and Shea Weber had an empty-net goal to put the season away for the Pens. Tristian Jarry stopped 20 of 21 shots he faced, while Carey Price, the number 1 star of the game, stopped 22 shots.
No word on who the opponent for Montreal will be in the opening round of the playoffs.
On Monday, the Pens and seven other teams will anxiously await the results of Phase 2 of the NHL Lottery Draft. The Pens have a 12.5 percent chance of landing the #1 overall pick in the draft. And whomever lands that coveted pick will most likely pick top prospect Alex Lafreniere, a forward with Rimouski Oceanic of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
The last time the Pens had to deal with the draft lottery, they also got lucky as they picked up the #1 pick in the 2005 draft and got Sidney Crosby.
