Legislation to be introduced in the state Senate would provide property tax relief to senior citizens in Pennsylvania.
State Senator Mario Scavello says his legislation would eliminate property taxes for roughly half of the elderly homeowners in Pennsylvania. The bill would provide rebates of up to 5 thousand dollars for seniors age 65 and older with an annual income of less than 60 thousand dollars. Under the bill, 50- percent of Social Security would be excluded when determining income.
Scavello, the Chairman of the Senate Banking and Insurance Committee, says this measure would provide relief for older Pennsylvanians, many of whom are on a fixed income and are struggling to meet an increasing tax burden.
