At last night’s special voting meeting, the Blairsville-Saltsburg School Board named a new acting interim superintendent for the district.
Former Connellsville Superintendent, and current financial consultant to the district, Phillip Martel was named as the acting interim superintendent, taking over the position left by the resignation of Jeffrey Soles. Soles resigned late last month to take a superintendent’s position in the West Mifflin School District.
Martel has been working in the Blairsville-Saltsburg School District as a financial consultant after it was announced that its business manager, Angela Mellinger, no longer worked for the district. Martel will also be part of the team that will help with the search for the next district superintendent.
The district will also look for a new business manager. Last night, Jacob Geiter was hired as the district’s acting business manager.
The board also approved plans to reopen the district’s brick-and-mortar schools under CDC guidelines, but they have pushed back the first day of school for students to September 8th. Board President Rick Harper said this will give teachers time to get ready for classes to be livestreamed or taped for later viewing by students who are studying virtually, including the installation of cameras in classrooms.
