The Pittsburgh Pirates lost again Saturday, dropping a 9-1 decision to the St. Louis Cardinals in St. Louis.
Trevor Williams surrounded three earned runs in less than three innings of work before giving way to a bullpen that allowed six runs in the seventh and eighth innings, though only two were earned.
Williams took the loss, giving up five hits and striking out three batters.
The Pirates managed just three hits and scored on a bases-loaded walk to John Murphy in the second inning.
The Pirates will try to salvage a win from the three-game set Sunday. The Ben Cherington Show is at 1:15 pm, followed by the Pirates pregame at 1:50 pm and first pitch at 2:15 pm.
