It may have taken a few months, but the Pirates season is now underway, and it was not a good start as the Pirates lost to the St. Louis Cardinals 5-4 last night.
Tyler O’Neill and Dexter Fowler hit homers for the Cards in the 3rd and 5th inning, and Yadier Molina hit an RBI single to score Paul Goldschmidt in the sixth. The Pirates offense came alive in the 7th with Jacob Stallings hitting an RBI single to right field that scored Josh Bell.
In the 8th, Paul Dejong hit a two run home run to give the cards a 5-2 lead. The Pirates tried a comeback in the top of the 9th with a two-run single from Jose Osuna, scoring Josh Bell and Colin Moran.
Joe Musgrove gave up three runs on five hits, but struck out seven in 5 and 2/3rds innings of work, and took the loss for the Pirates.
The Pirates and Cards will play this afternoon at 2:15 on WCCS.
