As was announced earlier this week, Catholic Diocese of Greensburg Bishop Edward Malesic will soon serve as the Bishop of the Cleveland Catholic Diocese, and he said it was a surprise to him.
Bishop Malesic said that he received the call from Pope Francis about two weeks before the announcement was made, but found it tough to keep the announcement a secret until it was time to make the announcement.
Malesic has presided over the Catholic Diocese of Greensburg for the last five years, and has guided the diocese through some tough times including the opioid crisis, the grand jury report into sexual abuse by priests, the Coronavirus pandemic and recently the social injustice protests. Malesic said his proudest moment was actually using new technology to spread the word of the Gospel.
Malesic will be installed as the new Bishop of the Cleveland Diocese on September 14th. On that day, a search will begin for a new bishop for the Greensburg diocese.
