The Pirates yesterday moved relievers Geoff Hartieb and Miguel Del Pozo from their PNC Park summer camp to the taxi squad training site in Altoona. That leaves Pittsburgh with 16 active pitchers at PNC as it pares down for the 30-man big league roster.
Closer Keone Kela remains absent for undisclosed reasons. Manager Derek Shelton said a decision has not been made on Kela being on the roster when the season starts a week from today. Third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes and outfielder Gregory Polanco missing again yesterday for unexplained reasons.
The Pirates will play the Cleveland Indians tomorrow night in an exhibition game at PNC Park. You’ll hear it on WCCS (FM 101.1/AM 1160) at 7 PM. Joe Musgrove is scheduled to pitch six innings for the Bucs.
Tampa Bay outfielder Austin Meadows has been placed on the injured list after testing positive for COVID-19. The team announced the news with Meadows’ permission. The 25-year-old ex-Pirate led the Rays with 33 home runs last season.
