The State Departments of Education and Health have released more guidance concerning the reopening of K-12 schools in the fall.
The new guidance recommends that masks must be worn by staffers and students while at school and while on school buses with some exceptions. The guidance also recommends that parents or students do daily symptom screening before leaving for school, and holding classes in large rooms or outdoors. They also recommend staggering class times, creating one-way walking patterns in hallways, and limiting the number of students on the playgrounds at one time.
The decision on whether to have classes in person, go to an online-only format or to have a hybrid format in place will be up to each of the individual schools. Health Secretary Dr. Rachel Levine said that face to face education is still important.
The guidance for school sports remains unchanged, with masks required for everyone except athletes, as they can remove their mask during competition or a workout.
