Five graduates of the Indiana County Camp Cadet program have been awarded $1,000 scholarships, which are given to students who attend a college, trade, or technical school, specifically seeking a career in law enforcement and/or the community service field. The scholarship program was established last year. Up to $5,000 in total grants will be awarded each year with a minimum grant award being $500.
The news release announcing the grants does not name the five recipients, but says they are all from Indiana County and they graduated from the program between 2012 and 2016.
Camp Cadet was begun in 2008. It’s a week-long summer camp, modeled after the State Police Academy, at Camp Seph Mack in Penn Run. The camp is for girls and boys between ages twelve and fifteen. All of the students must either live in Indiana County or attend an Indiana County school.
