The long string of hot weather without rain made conditions ripe for brush fires in our area, and fire departments were busy fighting two of them yesterday.
Indiana County 911 reported the fires at 1:59 and 2:28 PM in different areas of the county. The first fire was on Saltsburg Road in Conemaugh Township. Tunnelton-Conemaugh Township fire department was initially dispatched, but Saltsburg, Iselin, Coal Run-McIntyre, and Black Lick fire departments would be called in to help fight the brush fire within 15 minutes of the fire being reported by Indiana County 911.
The second fire, at 2:48 PM, was reported on Penn Drive in Burrell Township. Black Lick, Blairsville and Coral Graceton fire departments were dispatched at the time, along with the county’s Rapid Intervention Team and Citizens Ambulance. Indiana County 911 reported that the fire endangered a residence nearby.
No other details on either fire are available.
