The Blairsville-Saltsburg School Board passed their budget Tuesday night with no tax increases.
The 2020-2021 budget balances at $33,368,076, and taxes will remain the same for both Indiana and Westmoreland County residents. While board president Rick Harper said that he was happy the budget was balanced, he was also concerned about how the financial situation could change as the Coronavirus situation changes.
The board also approved three health and safety plans last night. Not only did the board approve the return to school plan and the athletics plan, the district also approved the plan for the Evergreen After School Club plan. Harper said that the plans now need to be submitted to the Pennsylvania Department of Education for their approval, and the plans will be posted on the district website. Harper added that the state is providing guidelines that he called “ever-changing”.
Harper said if school were to open for the year tomorrow, while Indiana County is in the reopening phase, the schools would operate normally, with masks for students and staffers optional.
