Pittsburgh native Joe Bugel has died at the age of 80. He was the architect of the Washington Redskins “Hogs” offensive line, helping win two Super Bowls, and was head coach of both the Cardinals and Raiders. Bugel played his high school football at Munhall High School and was an all-conference guard and linebacker at Western Kentucky.
Former NFL MVP Cam Newton has agreed to a one-year contract with the New England Patriots. Newton will compete with Jared Stidham for the Pats’ quarterback job. The former number-one overall pick had spent his entire career with the Carolina Panthers but was let go this spring. The incentive-laden deal is worth up to seven-point-five million dollars, according to the NFL Network.
The NFL is laying down a heavy fine and taking away a draft pick from the Patriots as a result of the club’s television crew filming the field and sideline during the December 8th game between the Cincinnati Bengals and Cleveland Browns. The league is imposing a $1.5 million penalty and taking a 2021 third-round draft pick. The Pats’ television production crew won’t be allowed to film any games during the upcoming season and senior club officials will be required to undergo training on league operation and game policies.
