Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said yesterday that the lack of pre-training camp team workouts has forced him to make some personnel decisions that normally could be delayed until he got a look at his players in person. One of those is the move of starting right tackle Matt Feiler to guard, with Chuks Okorafor and Zach Banner competing for the starting right tackle spot.
The Steelers signed veteran Stefen Wisniewski for the guard spot vacated by the retirement of Ramon Foster, but without having seen Wisniewski working with the team, Tomlin says “you’ve got to give the benefit of the doubt to the people that have been here,” at least at the start of camp.
With the same reasoning, Tyson Alualu will start camp as the number-one nose tackle.
Tomlin also said two Steelers have tested positive for the coronavirus, but have recovered and are “back to work”. He did not identify the players or say when they had the virus.
Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger told the audience at a Christian conference in Pittsburgh that in the past, he was addicted to both alcohol and pornography. He gave a 15-minute speech to the assembly at “ManUp Pittsburgh”, where he was an invited speaker. The conference deals with faith and a man’s role as a father and husband. Roethlisberger said now he’s trying to be a better Christian than he is an athlete.
