Major League Baseball and its players have agreed to start the 2020 regular season.
Teams will play a 60-game schedule, with training camps starting next Wednesday, July 1st, and Opening Day is set for July 23rd or 24th. Rosters will be expanded to 30 for the first two weeks and there will be a number of safety measures, including no spitting, and pitchers carrying wet rags in their pockets instead of licking their fingers. There will be a universal DH and extra innings will begin with a runner on second base to start the 10th inning, for the regular season only.
The Pirates will play teams in the NL Central and AL Central, so the schedule will include the Reds, Cubs, Cardinals, Brewers, Indians, Twins, White Sox, Royals, and Tigers. There will be only one road trip to each opponent’s stadium.
Teams can designate a second training camp site in addition to working out at their regular stadium, and the Pirates will reportedly use Altoona.
