The PIAA Board of Directors meets this afternoon and one of the agenda items is the option for game officials to order a two-game suspension for coaches and players for foul language or physical contact with an official. The standard is now a mandatory one-game suspension but the proposal would add a game at the official’s discretion, based on the severity of the offense, and the rule has also been extended to “ethnic or racially insensitive comments.”
Other actions today will include the final approval of the state tournament formats for all sports except basketball. PIAA rules mandate adoption on third reading, which will be the case for most sports. The basketball format will receive its first reading today.
The wrestling committee will review a proposal to reduce the number of weight classes from 14 to 13.
And the board will get a look at proposals to host the competitive spirit, team wrestling, swimming & diving, and basketball championship next year.
