The Pirates have announced that starter Chris Archer is out for the season after having had surgery yesterday. The right-hander, a disappointment with the Bucs since being acquired from Tampa Bay for Austin Meadows, Tyler Glasnow, and former first-round draft pick Shane Baz in 2018, is 6-12 with a 4.92 ERA in 33 starts, including 3-9 with a 5.12 ERA last year.
Pirates’ reliever Nick Burdi had a similar surgery for neurogenic thoracic outlet syndrome last year after collapsing in pain while pitching against Arizona in April of ’19.

Archer is projected to return to full competition for the 2021 season.
