Voter turnout for the Indiana County 2020 Primary Election was low. Out of 43,490 registered voters in Indiana County, unofficial election results showed that 9,952 ballots were cast, meaning 22.88 percent of Indiana County’s voters cast ballots in the election.
Many of the races in Indiana County went uncontested, with the exception of the 66th State House District Race. The 66th district combines a portion of Indiana County with all of Jefferson County. In combining results from both counties unofficial returns, Punxsutawney businessman Brian Smith beat current Jefferson County Commissioner John Matson, Jr. Smith had a combined 5429 votes compared to Matson’s 4,148. Matson had a 105 vote lead in Jefferson County, but the 1,721 votes Smith received in Indiana County made up the difference.
The 66th District seat was held by Cris Dush, who announced earlier this year that he would retire from the State House and seek a term in the State Senate.
All election results are unofficial until they are certified by their respective counties.
