State police have issued reports on two accidents, including the head-on collision Tuesday afternoon on Route 119 in Burrell Township.
Police say the crash at the intersection of 119 and Campbells Mill Road occurred when 76-year-old Robert Ginter of Homer City was traveling northbound on 119 at 45 to 50 miles per hour and 26-year-old Raymond Winkelman Jr. of Blairsville, who had the green light, attempted to turn left onto southbound 119, and the two collided.
Winkelman was taken to Forbes Regional Medical Center in Monroeville with apparent serious injuries. Ginter, who was cited for failure to obey the traffic signal, was treated for suspected minor injuries at the Indiana Regional Medical Center.
The other accident happened on Monday evening on Route 403 in East Wheatfield Township. Police say 59-year-old Darren Smith of Armagh suffered minor injuries when his Harley Davidson motorcycle went down on a sharp left-hand curve near the intersection of Tomb School Road. A part of the cycle hit the roadway as Smith leaned into the turn. The bike skidded off the highway and hit an item at a salvage yard beside the road. Smith suffered road rash to his left shoulder and back and was treated at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown.
