The Steelers now have signed nine of their ten undrafted free agents. Yesterday, the team announced that defensive lineman Josiah Coatney, fullback Spencer Nigh, and center Christian Montano have inked their deals, leaving only defensive end James Lockhart yet to sign.
At Andy Dalton’s request, the Cincinnati Bengals have released the nine-year veteran quarterback known as “The Red Rifle”. The Bengals chose Heisman Trophy winning LSU quarterback Joe Burrow with the No. 1 overall pick in the draft last week. Dalton ranks first in Bengals history with 204 passing touchdowns and is second with 31,594 passing yards. He’s earned three Pro Bowl selections and led Cincinnati to five postseason appearances.
Dalton is yet another high-profile player looking for a new team. Former top overall picks Cam Newton and Jadeveon Clowney are also jobless.
The Broncos’ Von Miller tweets that he has been cleared of COVID-19, two weeks after the Super Bowl MVP linebacker revealed he had contracted the virus. The eight-time Pro Bowler had only mild symptoms during his illness.
The Chiefs have reportedly exercised their fifth-year option on quarterback Patrick Mahomes before the Super Bowl MVP becomes eligible to sign what’s expected to be a record-setting contract extension this offseason. Several reports indicate that Mahomes could be in line to receive a five-year extension for over $200 million, which would make him the highest-paid player ever, at $40 million-per-year.
The Giants have picked up tight end Evan Engram and safety Jabrill Peppers’ fifth-year options. The Chargers have picked up the fifth year on wide receiver Mike Williams, while the Redskins have declined their option on linebacker Reuben Foster, who missed all of 2019 with a serious knee injury and has played in only 16 games since entering the NFL
in 2017.
The Bears have reportedly signed a pair of veterans, agreeing to one-year deals with wide receiver Ted Ginn Jr. and safety Tashaun Gipson.
The NFL is going to release its 2020 schedule by the end of next week, but league spokesman Brian McCarthy said yesterday that they are planning for several contingencies because of the Covid-19 pandemic. The schedule that they’re releasing will be the regular, unadjusted schedule that kicks off the season on September 10th and concludes with Super Bowl 55 on February 7th next year.
