Pitt basketball coach Jeff Capel has signed his highest-rated recruit ever, 6-foot-7 Erie McDowell forward William Jeffress. He averaged 23.2 points and 8.3 rebounds per game over three years and will graduate early in June, bypassing his senior season of high school and joining the Panthers this fall. Jeffress signed a letter of intent yesterday.
He is one of the best high school players in the nation. ESPN ranks him 33rd, 247 Sports has him rated number 58, and Rivals.com ranks him 75th.
Jeffress is still only 16 years old, but he has already been taking college classes and he carries a 4.19 grade-point average. He’s Capel’s fifth recruit for next season. Pitt’s recruiting class is ranked an impressive 13th in the nation by 247 Sports and 20th by Rivals.com.
