It was a big day yesterday for the IUP golf program, as freshman Shaun Fedor was named the PSAC Men’s Golf Athlete of the Year and Freshman of the Year, Coach Dan Braun was named Coach of the Year, and Fedor was joined by teammates Jeremy Eckenrode and Jack Buccigross on the All-PSAC teams.
- Fedor, the PSAC individual champion last fall, is only the third golfer ever to sweep Freshman and Athlete of the Year, following Clarion’s Matt Guyton in 2002 and IUP’s Graham Hill in ’05. He ended the year as the second-ranked player in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region and was a PING All-Atlantic Region selection. He’s IUP second straight Athlete of the Year after senior Matt Cocorikis earned the honor last year. IUP has had six players of the year in the decade and eleven since 2000. Fedor is also IUP’s second straight Freshman of the Year, following Nicholas Ward last season.
- In only his second year, Dan Braun wins his first Coach of the Year award. Don White had four and Fred Joseph won twelve in their tenures. Braun led IUP to three wins in five events, including the PSAC championship in the fall. The spring season was cut short by Covid-19. The Crimson Hawks finshed the year ranked number-one in the Atlantic Region.
- Fedor and Eckenrode were named All-PSAC first team and Buccigross was named to the second team. It’s the eighth time in the ten years since the PSAC started using the format that IUP has put at least three players on the all-league teams.
