Sports fans will have the chance to bid on some rare Pirates collectibles this week. A 1959 Roberto Clemente game-used bat and a 1902 Honus Wagner rookie card are up for auction at robertedwardauctions.com.
The company says the Wagner card is expected to sell for more than $100,000. It’s a W600 Sporting Life cabinet card depicting Wagner in a suit. It’s in very good condition, with only two known cards graded higher. The auction site calls it “an exceptionally attractive example of one of Honus Wagner’s rarest and most noteworthy cards from one of the most significant sets of the twentieth century.” The starting bid yesterday was $50,000 and it’s up to $90,000 as of this morning.
The Clemente bat from 1959 is game-used and is from the “Momen” series, which was Clemente’s childhood nickname. Those bats were only made between 1955 and 1960 and only sixteen other bats from the series have ever been evaluated. It had an opening bid of $20,000 and as of this morning was up to $36,000.
This particular auction has a lot of baseball cards in it, including a 1955 Clemente rookie card that has a current bid of $77,500.
The auction ends on Sunday.
