Baseball stadiums are quiet this spring, but there is baseball action on the radio. Tonight on WCCS, AM 1160 and FM 101.1, we begin a four-game series featuring all four Pirates’ wins in the 1979 World Series. We’ll have game two of the Series tonight, game five on Wednesday night, game six next Monday night, and game seven on Wednesday the 22nd. Each game airs at 8 PM.
It’s a Hall of Fame pitching matchup tonight with the Pirates’ Bert Blyleven facing off with the Orioles’ Jim Palmer in Baltimore.
Here’s the Buccos’ lineup: Omar Moreno leads off and plays center; Tim Foli is at shortstop, batting second; Right fielder Dave Parker hits third, followed by first baseman Willie Stargell, left fielder John Milner, third baseman Bill Madlock, catcher Ed Ott, and second baseman Phil Garner, with Blyleven batting ninth.

There was no designated hitter in the 1979 World Series. The rules called for the Series to alternate on the use of the DH year-by-year.
