Steelers GM Kevin Colbert held a video chat yesterday, talking about the team’s offseason moves and preparations for the upcoming NFL draft.
Colbert says the team’s scouts have been evaluating the prospects in this year’s draft for over a year, so they have a lot to go on, and they are working as best as they can from their homes.
The GM says the team can draw inspiration from the 1974 draft, when the technology and analytics were much less developed that they are today, and they drafted five future Hall of Famers.
Colbert said he’s encouraged with what he’s heard from the doctors, trainers, and Ben Roethlsiberger himself on the quarterback’s return from elbow surgery, but they have not seen Big Ben throw yet in person.

- Colbert said signing linebacker Bud Dupree to a long-term contract remains a team priority, and they have made that clear to Dupree. He has told Dupree he’d like him to play his entire career in Pittsburgh.
- He also said the Steelers need a healthy James Connor and JuJu Smith Schuster, but that he is always looking to add depth at running back and wide receiver.
In other news from the Steelers, in light of the Covid-19 crisis and the financial impact on Steelers’ fans, the team has extended the deadline to pay for season tickets a month, from May 1st to June 1st.
Expanded playoffs are coming to the NFL. The NFL and its owners confirmed a vote to expand one playoff team per conference for a total of two additional playoff teams. 14 teams in total will now make the playoffs with seven being added from each conference. There will now be three games per conference during Wild Card weekend. Only the top overall seed will have byes and the number two seed will host the lowest seed.
