The Steelers took it relatively easy on their first day practicing in pads yesterday at St. Vincent. Coach Mike McCarthy said the team was in “restricted” mode because of the timing limitations of training camp, but promised the hitting will ramp up later in the week.
The coach likes that his players have been all business at practice throughout camp getting the maximum out of their regulated time on the field.
Quarterback Aaron Rodgers made camp news with his appearance on the Pat MacAfee Show, sharing his views on the controversy over Dr. Anthony Fauci in his Senate hearing last week. But on the field, it was all football.
Tight end Pat Freiermuth says the Steelers have a much better level of consistency with Rodgers back for a second season in black and gold. He says Rodgers expects his receivers to be in the right place when he needs them.
The Steelers hosted edge rusher Terrell Tilmon yesterday but have not announced a signing with the undrafted rookie out of Texas Tech. He played for new outside linebackers coach C.J. Ah You in college and tried out with the Steelers at rookie minicamp in May.
Practice at St. Vincent today is scheduled for 11 AM.
