Reaction continues to come in concerning the release of imprisoned Americans from Russian custody that did not include Marc Fogel.
In a statement, State Senator Joe Pittman said that no American should be left behind, and that while the return of Evan Gerskovich and Paul Whelan was good, he felt the agreement settled on by President Joe Biden left people in Russian Custody. Fogel has been in custody since 2021 when he was stopped at a Russian Airport and arrested for carrying a small amount of medicinal marijuana and was ordered to serve 14 years in Russian custody. He is currently in a Russian Penal Colony.
Pittman said no family should endure prolonged separation from their loved ones, and urges President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris to take Marc’s side during the remaining term in office for Biden, saying “We must stand together against this grave injustice.”
In a recent interview, US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said that he was personally working on Fogel’s return, and while he couldn’t give details, they were continuing to work on it.
