The 14U Indiana Little League All-Star Softball team pulled off another win at the Junior League World Series yesterday, and now it’s on to the semifinals.
Indiana topped the team from host city, Kirkland, Washington, 5-3, in another come-from-behind rally. Kirkland scored a run in each of the first three innings before Indiana tied it at 3. It stayed that way into the bottom of the 6th when Indiana scored on a fielder’s choice grounder by Kaylee Cass, followed by a sacrifice fly that brought home Sophia Thomas.
Rylee Mahaffey threw five-and-a-third innings of one-hit shutout relief, striking out five and walking none. Sophia Thomas was 2-for-2 and drove in two runs and Madison Twincheck stole two bases, including a steal of home to tie the game in the 4th inning.
Next up is a semifinal game against another Eastern team, from Poland, Ohio. It’s today at 1 PM Pacific, 4 PM our time. Should Indiana win again, they will play for the world championship tomorrow, again at 4 Eastern. If they lose today, they will play a third-place game tomorrow against the winner of today’s other semifinal, between Prague, Czech Republic, and Little River-Academy, Texas, a team Indiana has already beaten once.
