The Penguins jumped to a 2-0 lead but had to win in overtime, 3-2, over the Buffalo Sabres last night.
Jeff Carter scored the game-winning goal after the Pens killed a minute-55 second Buffalo power play when Carter took a tripping penalty with five seconds left in regulation. The Penguins’ lead-leading penalty kill unit did not allow a shot during the 4-on-3.
Evan Rodrigues scored in the first period for the Penguins and Brock McGinn in the second, but the Sabres answered with goals in the second and third periods. Carter’s game-winner came after he won a center-ice faceoff, slipping the puck to Kris Letang who dashed into the Sabres end with Carter for a two-on-one. Letang fed a beautiful pass to Carter in the slot and Carter sent the puck home at the 2:53 mark of the OT to give the Pens a six-game winning streak.
The Penguins will host the New Jersey Devils tomorrow night.
