While Indiana County is not in an official drought stage, the ground is dry enough that brush fires have become more frequent.
41 brush fires have been reported in Indiana County this year by Indiana County 911, with four reported in the last three days. Indiana Fire Association Assistant Chief Ron Moreau said that with the heat and humidity levels remaining high during the summer months, fighting a brush fire puts a strain on the firefighters.
He added that the lower-than-normal water levels right now are also a concern they have.
He is advising against any sort of burning outdoors at this time, even if it’s a small fire, due to how dry conditions are.
