Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro gave his first remarks yesterday on reports of him possibly joining vice president Kamala Harris as her running mate.
The governor was at a news conference in Pittsburgh concerning a federal grant of nearly $400 million for the Reducing Industrial Sector Emissions in Pennsylvania project, which is part of the state’s application to the EPA’s Climate Pollution Reduction Grant Program. But he was asked about recent phone calls between him, president Joe Biden and Vice President Harris.
Shapiro said that he didn’t want to “engage in hypotheticals”, but called the decision a personal one for the Vice President, and said she will “make that decision on her own timetable.” He confirmed that he did speak with Harris after Biden announced his decision to drop out of the presidential election, but he said that discussion focused on beating former President Donald Trump.
When asked if he was interested in becoming Harris’ running mate, he said that he was more focused on being Pennsylvania’s governor.
