A resolution has been introduced in the state house of representatives to start a probe into the actions and response of state and local law enforcement during the attempted assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump at a rally in Butler last Saturday.
House Resolution 501 was introduced by House Republican Leader Bryan Cutler of Lancaster County and will form a bipartisan Select Committee on the Trump Assassination Attempt, made up of three Democrats and three Republicans. They would be charged with looking into how state and local law enforcement organizations planned, responded and coordinated with federal agencies and the Trump Campaign event organizers. Also, the committee will identify any necessary operational changes needed for state and local law enforcement to provide security support at similar events. That is being done with an eye towards future major events in Pennsylvania as the state gets ready for the upcoming 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
Last week’s attempted assassination left former President Trump with an ear injury. Two others were injured, and one person died from the shooting. Secret Service agents shot and killed the suspect.
