The 2024 PA Youth Legion Western Regional Tournament gets underway today at First Commonwealth Bank Field in Homer City. There are games at 1 o’clock, 4 o’clock, and 7. Wesleyville plays Monroeville at 1, followed by Penn Trafford versus St. Mary’s at 4, and the Indiana County League champion, the S.W. Jack Drillers, taking on Ligonier at 7.
Tournament Director Dick Clawson says it’s no coincidence that the Youth Legion playoffs are held so often at First Commonwealth Bank Field.
With the field reduced by one team this year because Marion Center had to withdraw, the tournament’s top seed won’t get to play until tomorrow. Clawson is eager to get a look at them.
There are three more games tomorrow and on Sunday. The Regional wraps up Monday with the second place teams from Pool A and Pool B meeting to determine the third berth out of the West for next week’s state tournament, which will also be held at First Commonwealth Bank Field. Both teams in the championship game, the winners of Pool A and Pool B, will also qualify for the state tournament.
The host team for the state tournament next week will be Homer City Post 493.
We will have Renda Digital TV coverage of all of S.W. Jack’s games in the tournament. They are the nightcap games at 7 o’clock tonight, tomorrow, and Sunday. Should the Drillers qualify for either game on Monday, that, too will be on Renda Digital TV.
