Duane Lewis Bash 78, of Dixonville, went to his heavenly home on Saturday, July 13, 2024. He was surrounded by his loving family in the home he loved so much. Duane was born on October 12, 1945, in Indiana, PA to Charles Lewis Bash and Alice (Marsh) Bash.
He married Patricia (Patty) Davidson on June 6, 1970 and they enjoyed 54 years of marriage raising three children. There was never a dull moment at the Bash household, thanks to Duane. He was witty and the subject of many happy moments involving his children, grandchildren, and two special “son-like” family friends, Kris Beer and Kenny Woods.
After graduating from Penns Manor High School in 1965, Duane worked in the coal industry. As a proud American, Duane enlisted in the Army during the Vietnam War in 1966. When he returned home from the Army, Duane continued to work in the coal industry. A serious mining accident in 1976 ended Duane’s work life as he knew it.
Duane stayed busy in his community and took on the early role as the town “Mr. Fixit” and a friend to anyone who stopped at his garage. Every day he would dress in his “College University” t-shirt or work uniform that displayed a different name each day, along with his colored suspenders. A good day for Duane would be to spend a day in his garage working on his tractors, and doing his good deeds for neighbors, friends, and his family on a moment’s notice.
Duane’s greatest joy was his family, close connection with twin brother Wayne, wife Sonya and his children Jerry and Stephanie, sons-in-laws Rob Ward and Harry Wilson, Jr., cousin Dean Buterbaugh, nephew Sam Rager, and many friends. If you had an opportunity to meet Duane for the first time, by the end of the conversation he would be your friend and bless you with a nickname for life.
Duane always insisted for his children and grandchildren to be kind, respectful, and to work hard with grit and perseverance. He spent quality time hunting and fishing with son, Greg, twin brother Wayne, and nephew Jerry at camp. He always appreciated his niece Tracy and daughter-in-law Heather for the great food they would always prepare for camp weekends.
He lived beside his daughters Lisa and Tammie, brother and sister-in-law Jim and Paula Davidson, niece Megan Rager, and was able to spend countless moments with them watching their families grow, and spending time at the family pool.
Duane belonged to the Glen Campbell G. I. Club, Fee Pennington Post 435 American Legion, and the UMWA District 2 Local 1412.
Duane is survived by his loving wife, Patty, daughter, Lisa Bash-Ward (Rob), son Gregory Bash (Heather), and daughter Tammie Bash-Wilson (Harry, Jr.), his twin brother, Wayne Bash, (Sonya), and sister Elaine Mack, and brother-in-law, James Davidson (Paula). He is also survived by six grandchildren, Taylor, Carlena, Rachael, Korbin, Landin, Braden, and special great niece Lilyanna and great nephew Jaxson.
Duane is also survived by his very special aunt, Dolores (Marsh) Mack, and many special nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Duane was predeceased by his parents, maternal grandparents, Alvin and Talitha Marsh and paternal grandparents Orrin and Orpha Bash, his mother-in-law, Marian Davidson, brother-in-law, James Mack, and special cousin Clarence Marsh.
The family extends a special thank you to Pastor Paul Wallace and wife, Becky, and friends and family who supported the family with care during Duane’s illness. Sincere gratitude is extended to Dr. Russell Drozdiak and staff, Dr. Matthew Nettleton and staff, Anew Home Health Services, Penn Hospice, Physical Therapist, Brandon Haggerty, and caregiver, Tina Strickland, for her love and care to Duane and his family.
Per Duane’s wishes, there will be no public viewing or funeral services. Duane would want you to look at your community and do a good deed for someone in need. The McCabe~Roof Funeral Home, 565 Franklin St., Clymer is assisting the Bash family.
