A longtime member and former chief of the Brush Valley Fire Department has passed away.

Edward “Dick” Altemus died on Wednesday. He served the Brush Valley Fire Department for 65 years, 63 of them as its chief. He was also employed as a machinist for Fisher Scientific for 35 years. Altemus was also a fixture at Penns Manor sporting events and was also a coach for several teams.
Visitation is scheduled for tomorrow, with a funeral service set for Saturday. The Bowser Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Homer City is handling arrangements. He was 87.
