The Pittsburgh Steelers will kick off the National Football League schedule this week tonight at Minnesota. Hear the game on WDAD, pregame is 6:20 pm, and kickoff is at 8:20.
A victory against the 5-7 Vikings would keep the up-and-down Steelers in the playoff chase. Pittsburgh is currently a half-game out of a wild card berth and a game and a half out of the division lead.
Still, though, it’s tough to consider a Steelers-Vikings game and not think of history, as the Steelers’ first-ever Super Bowl victory back in 1975 came against Minnesota in the last game ever at Tulane Stadium.
The 6-5-1 Steelers will not have the services of cornerback Joe Haden and three reserves, but the Vikings will be missing their second-leading receiver, Adam Thielen, and may not have Dalvin Cook, as the seventh-leading rusher in the NFL has a high ankle sprain.
This is the last team on the Steelers schedule with a losing record. Three of their remaining games are against teams currently leading their divisions. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger says it’s a must-win game.
The Steelers made Roethlisberger their nominee for the NFL’s Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award today. TJ Watt was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week yesterday after recording 3 ½ sacks in a victory against Baltimore.
